I’m a big believer in love- whether that be couples love or self love so with this little Valentine’s treat you get both! Here’s how to make a homemade body scrub for Valentine’s Day. This can either be given to your lover for a Valentine’s gift, used together in the bathroom for a romantic couples night in, or if you are spending Valentine’s night solo, it can be used to pamper yourself in a loving way and provide self care and nurturing!

All you need for this beautiful red home made sugar body scrub is a few ingredients and a clean glass jar to put it in! I had most of the basic ingredients (like sugar and olive oil) at home, but I needed essential oil so my son and I took a trip to Boots after school. Here we are in the aisle where the oils are located- it was near the health and wellbeing areas, close to the pharmacy.

The aisle in store where I found essential oils

There was a small range of oils in store, but they had the one I wanted… Lavender!

Once we’d got our essential oil, I got to work the next day. It doesn’t take long to make this scrub… about ten minutes!

Here’s what you’ll need.
Prep time: 20 mins
Ingredients

  • 200g light brown sugar
  • 200g white sugar
  • 85g olive oil
  • Red gel food colouring
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil

After measuring out your ingredients, simply combine the white and brown sugar in a bowl. Then add in the olive oil and stir. Once the mixture is combined, add the food colouring.

You can make the colour as intense as you like – just add less drops for a lighter shade and more drops for a darker shade. I went for a true red, like a love heart! You really need to ensure the mixture is fully combined and there are no blobs of food colouring within the mixture as you don’t want to turn your skin red when you use the scrub! Once the colour is to your liking and all the food colouring is mixed in, add about 5 drops of essential oil to fragrance the scrub. Combine well with your spoon.

That’s it! It is really simple to make and is a very thoughtful present for the one you love (or yourself!) Just make sure that you store in a air tight container and for best results, use within 6 months!

I had plenty of product from my mixture, so here are a few in pots. The mini pot could be used as a lip scrub and the larger pots as body scrubs!

You can also make this for a mother’s day gift or a birthday treat for a girly girl!

Here is one with a beautiful label that I made on my computer. It says “Open when you need to know you’re loved”.

Open When… you need to know you’re loved
